St. Patrick’s Day is almost here! Therefore, I decided to put together a festive art project that requires cooperation between the art group. It will also add some decorative elements to the Alzheimer’s Activity Center. The project that I’ve came up with is a wreath consisting of clover cutouts. I provided the outlines for the clovers and the participants were required to trace them onto colored paper and cut them out with scissors. I was given consent by the center to allow the use of sharp cutting tools with the participants.

Since this is a cooperative creation, I wanted everyone to take part in gluing on the clovers. Therefore, the wreath was passed around the table so each participant could be actively involved. Here is a video of the participants placing the clovers onto the board.

The wreath will be hung on the front door!

I am glad that we were able to complete a group project. During this process, the participants were able to bond through organically formed conversations. This is the essence of art therapy: to connect with oneself and with those around you. Art therapy is not solely used for medical purposes, but it serves as a social and creative outlet to better the patient's quality of life.
