This week was a little different, since we started the second round of cognitive testing! The second round of cognitive testing will include the Wisconsin Card Sorting test, Line Tracing Test and Color Classification. Data, conclusion and discussion will be posted in future blogs.
Continuing the nature theme from last week, we did an abstract landscape drawing for this week’s project. The participants were asked to divide the landscape into sections of terrain and sky and fill up each section with different patterns and textures. Since this project was rather challenging, I demonstrated the process and asked them to follow along. After the outline was completed, the participants filled up the sections with their choice of patterns. I thought that this art activity was a good exercise for practicing the various skills that they’ve garnered the previous weeks. For example, it exercises their ability to color, draw lines, create patterns and develop composition.
I had a great time with the participants! Interestingly, a Spanish speaker joined us for this week’s activity. Although I did not speak fluent Spanish (even after 4 years of high school Spanish oops), she was happy that I could understand and help her accordingly. It felt great to connect with the Alzheimer’s patients at the center.
Here is my approach to the abstract landscape drawing:

And here are some of the art works made by the participants:

That's it for this week's blog! Thank you and I hope you enjoyed it.
